Capacitor Discharge Stud

Capacitor Discharge (CD) studs utilize a bank of capacitors to discharge to store energy at a specific voltage in order to weld to many different kinds of materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, etc. The energy is “discharged” through a special ignition tip at the stud base creating an instantaneous arc which melts both surfaces together without the use of a ceramic ferrule while forcing the stud into the adjoining surface. CD studs are available in an array of different grades ranging from Mild steel to high grade stainless

Capacitor discharge studs are available in thread sizes #4-40 - 3/8-16. 

Materials:

  • Plating: All mild steel studs are copper plated
